Malaysian Psychology Charter

Malaysian Psychology Charter

The Malaysian Psychology Charter is a shared set of ethical values, created through collaboration with professionals across Malaysia’s mental health field. It includes psychologists, counsellors, educators, researchers, students, and community partners.

It is a living document, built from the ground up to reflect what matters most: integrity, responsibility, inclusion, and moral courage. It recognises the contributions of both established and emerging branches of psychology and related professions.

It is not a code of conduct or a formal regulatory document like those issued by MOH, MSCP, LKM, or other regulatory bodies. Instead, it is a values-based framework that speaks to our shared identity and ethical responsibilities as a growing professional community.

The Charter Invites Co-Creation and Support From:

Universities & Training Providers

Professional Associations & Networks

Student Bodies & Youth-Led Organisations

NGOs & Community Mental Health Partners

Private & Public Sector Practitioners

This Charter Aims To:

  • Reflect Malaysian values — like humility, mutual respect, community, and responsibility
  • Support ethical decision-making, especially in complex situations
  • Encourage accountability, not silence, when harm or wrongdoing happens
  • Unify the field by creating shared understanding across all branches of psychology — clinical, counselling, organisational, educational, forensic, and more

It is designed to reflect the cultural realities and diverse professional journeys in Malaysia.

The Charter is meant to be a guiding light — a way for us to stand together on shared principles, protect the dignity of our work, and build greater trust with the communities we serve.

Over time, it can help shape a stronger, more ethical, and more united future for psychology in Malaysia.

We are inviting organisations, universities, training centres, professional groups, and community-based initiatives to help co-create and eventually sign the Charter. Email us to express your interest: reachout@ethicscollective.org
