Who We Are

Our Collective

We are a collective of independent, values-driven Malaysian professionals, coming together from all corners of the world, committed to raising ethical standards and accountability across Malaysia’s psychological community.

Farah Gulamoydeen

Farah Gulamoydeen

Founder and Collective Partner (Based in Australia)

Farah (BA Psych, BBusMan, MClinPsy, PhD Candidate) is a registered psychologist in Australia and a prominent figure in the Malaysian Psychology field, notably for her work in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in Malaysia. She has held leadership positions and was on the executive board of the ANZ Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (2019–2022). She is values-driven and unafraid to speak the truth when it matters. She is also passionate about empowering others, focusing on strengths, and building resilience within individuals and professional communities. Farah founded the Ethics in Action Collective in response to challenging personal experiences within Malaysia’s mental health landscape, including both professional harm and unmet institutional needs for accountability. She brings the insight of lived experience to her leadership — transforming these events into a catalyst for collective growth. She is committed to the hands-on, uphill task of strengthening ethical standards within the Malaysian mental health community and shifting the culture towards responsibility and integrity. For Farah, upholding the integrity of the profession is not only important, it is now where she focuses her contribution.

Frances Lim

Frances Lim

Collective Partner (Based in Malaysia)

Frances Lim (BSc Psych, MClinPsy) is a clinical psychologist based in Kuala Lumpur. Her early professional experience at the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore, shaped her appreciation for compassionate and ethical care in mental health practice. Since returning to Malaysia, Frances has continued her work in private practice, journeying alongside individuals from diverse backgrounds. She also provided tutoring and lecturing in private universities, teaching subjects including professional ethics. Over time, she has observed a growing gap in ethical awareness within the local context, where lapses are sometimes dismissed or normalized. This observation has deepened her passion for nurturing integrity and reflective decision-making within the profession. Frances believes that ethics is not merely about compliance, but about compassion, accountability, and respect — values that guide professionals to do what is right and good, both for those they serve and for the field they represent. Her goal is to continue fostering a culture where ethical awareness and ethical observance is openly discussed and lived out daily.

Dr Su Chen Tan

Dr Su Chen Tan

Collective Partner (Based in the USA)

In a field devoted to serving others, Su Chen (MCoun. MPH, PhD (Psych)) holds that ethical principles and professional conduct are the heart of responsible practice and research. Her background in mental health and public health emphasizes a strong sense of responsibility, honesty, equity, and respect, not only in public-facing interventions and programs, but also within the professional community. She now serves as the Associate Director of Consilience at a U.S. federally funded, multidisciplinary research center, where she focuses on the science and practice of bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to address complex societal challenges that extend beyond the scope of any single field. She believes that in a nurturing and safe environment, people can bring out the best in one another. It is through these values and experiences that she finds meaning in collaborating with mental health clinicians and researchers in Malaysia to bridge gaps and uphold high standards for ethics and professionalism through mutual accountability, open dialogue, and collaborative learning.

Dr Edward Ong

Dr Edward Ong

Collective Partner (Based in the UK)

Dr Edward Ong (BPsych, PhD Forensic-Clinical, CPsychol) is a Chartered Psychologist with a background in forensic-clinical psychology. He is also a member of the British Psychological Society and the Division of Forensic Psychology, as well as an educator whose work includes ethical reasoning and decision-making in complex and often uncertain practice contexts. His experience working with vulnerable and high-risk client groups has deepened his appreciation of how professional integrity, compassion, and accountability must coexist when navigating risk, conflict, or moral ambiguity. Edward views ethics not as compliance, but as an ongoing process of reflection, dialogue, and moral courage — essential for navigating difficult situations with different service users, but also working collaboratively with other professionals. He believes that ethical maturity develops through integrity, empathy, and shared responsibility. In Malaysia, he hopes to contribute to fostering spaces where practitioners can engage openly with ethical dilemmas and uphold humane, accountable, and reflective practice.
